I have always offered to preview my clients' projects as well. Not just "preview" as I've defined above, but actually go through a project page by page to proofread, look for any errors in placement, check to make sure text is readable, double check to see that all photos are high quality, etc. I am, of course, human, but I do a fairly good job proofreading, and I'm happy to do it. My goal as a consultant is for my clients to have an AMAZING experience with Heritage Makers like I have. So I'm happy to help!!
Over the years, I have previewed/proofed a thank you gift for a lucky piano teacher, adorable playing cards, sweet anniversary books, vacation books, and much more. I honestly feel blessed to get a peek into the special and amazing things people are doing with Heritage Makers. And it makes me happy. I am now, though, at the happy point in my business where it's actually taking a lot of my time. I love it! But I also have come to the realization that I need to be more careful and more wise with my time.
I am supposed to charge a $25/hour consultant fee beyond the initial getting-a-client-going work that I do. I've never done that, except in the case of actually making a book or other project for someone, but I feel it's time for me to do that with previewing/proofing now. For proofing, I will also accept publishing points instead of "cash" (check) if you prefer (since transferring points is so easy). Effective March 1, 2013, the fee schedule for previewing/proofing will be:
- First two projects FREE!!! I WANT to preview all my clients' first two projects to make sure they are the best they can be! I want your experience with Heritage Makers to be fantastic!
- Anything single-sided, double-sided, 4 pages/surfaces or less (such as cards, posters, canvases, business cards, tri-fold brochures, etc.): $2 or 2 publishing points
- Playing cards and anything 5-14 pages (such as individual scrapbook pages): $6 or 6 publishing points
- Anything 15-21 pages (such as magazines, calendars, booklets, hardbound or softbound books, including flipbooks and swatchbooks since their 10 pages are double-sided): $18 or 18 publishing points
- Anything 22-30 pages: $27 or 27 publishing points
- Anything 31-40 pages: $36 or 36 publishing points
- Anything 41-50 pages: $45 or 45 publishing points
- Anything 51-99 pages: $60 or 60 publishing points
I, in no way, intend to discourage clients from asking for previews!! I intend for this fee schedule to be fair to those asking for previews and fair to me as the consultant in the time I give a client. I really enjoy the previews, and I hope they will continue!
