WHAT'S NEW AROUND HERE
Last week I went to a conference with my daughter, and we were able to take a little time to go to an art museum with an AMAZING piece on display. It's a replica of the Gates of Paradise, the baptistery doors in Florence, Italy. Lorenzo Ghiberti took 27 years to complete them.
The originals were removed amid safety fears in World War II, and plaster casts were made of them then. It's a long, interesting story of how one set arrived at this museum where they were restored and then covered in 23-karat gold leaf. Which took 10 years!
I love that my kids enjoy art, museums, and botanical gardens as much as I do. This was an incredible thing to see. This girl was 2 years old when we saw the original doors in Florence, and it was pretty neat for me to hear her grown-up response to this magnificent artwork now.

DeleteI've never heard that about upstate New York before, how interesting. My husband and I have had that Colorado train ride on our bucket list for a while now. Thanks for the party.
