WHAT'S NEW AROUND HERE

We traveled for Memorial Day Weekend, which we haven't for a while, and spent time with my side of the family.  We visited my dad's hometown where generations of ancestors lived before us.  I love genealogy because I can learn who they are and why they immigrated.  Knowing their stories gives me connection.  That visit was so good for my heart.

We also visited my mom's gravesite, and I took her a sand dollar from Oregon that I gathered over Mother's Day weekend.  My daughter took this beautiful photo, with flowers that my dad cut from his yard in the foreground.

My sister did an amazing job of making it a fun weekend full of laughs and connection.  She did a Cinco de Mayo/May birthdays party combination, complete with The Great Guac-Off (teams had 10 minutes to make guac without a recipe, with a taster to determine the winner), a bunch of Mexican sweetbreads from a new Panaderia in town, and Mexican decor.

We also did a Skit-in-a-Bag in which teams have props in a bag and have 10 minutes to come up with a skit incorporating them.  My family is pretty hilarious, so this activity is always a good time, but this time the theme was Telenovela.  We joked beforehand that each skit would have to include either someone in a coma or with amnesia, and 3 of the 4 skits did.

And I do recommend that if you do any sort of Cinco de Mayo party ever, you check out mini sombreros and stick-on mustaches from amazon.com because they are simply a must.  My niece loved being so funny.

My second "what's new around here" is that I got a jump start to my big summer goal of talking to 69 people about storing photos permanently without monthly payments by talking to one person last week!  She learned a lot, including how temporary Google and iCloud are, and she even took notes.  😊

I'd love your help--please pass this on to anyone you know who loves taking pictures & videos and wants them to be preserved and accessible even after they pass on.  I do most of these over Zoom!

Now off to the spotlights from last time!  I can't wait to see what you share (old posts or new) this time.  Enjoy exploring!

  7. Happy New Year, Jennifer! I was thinking today that I also might need to stop collecting nativities although I love finding new ones when I travel. At some point I need to start downsizing! LOL! Happpy belated anniversary! As always, thanks for the party!

    1. Me, too! I love finding new nativities when I travel also. For me, it might need to be more of a "give away the ones I don't love" rather than stop collecting them. ha :) You're welcome, and thank you for being a great part of our linkup!

    1. You're welcome--and thank you for sharing your fun projects with us. I couldn't help myself sharing your "bloggers' dos and don'ts"--it really was one of my favorite reads from the last couple of weeks, and I think you said everything so well and gave us all such important reminders. Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm now walking without the boot and getting back into things, which is nice. My goal today is go for a 15-minute walk in the sunshine. :) Have a great week, too!

  11. Thanks so much, Jennifer, for the feature for the thrifted crafts. Learning a new skill is always fun and a little intimidating but fun wins out. Your new on-line course sounds really interesting. I really appreciate all the inspiration and information you have on your blog.

    1. I agree--sometimes it's a little intimidating (or downright scary) to learn a new skill, but the process is fun anyway. :) Thank you--yes, I'm hoping the online event at the end of April will be both helpful and fun! I'd love to have you join me. And thank you so much for your kind words about my blog. :) Thank you for joining us in our linkup, Lynne!

  13. Hi, Jennifer. Your Mother's Day trip, did you go by herself or did your sister go with you? I have always thought about taking a trip solo, but I've been 'afraid' too. It's the 'what ifs' that get me. What if my car breaks down or what if I get lost. However that one is irrelevant now with MAPs on my phone! I came to your party a day early :) I'll be back tomorrow with my link!
    All the best.

    1. Yes, I went by myself on this trip. I definitely depend on Google Maps on my phone to get around, even though I've been to all the places I went many times--it's been a while! I have taken very few solo trips, but as an introvert I like spending time by myself as much as I like spending time with other people. I go to movies by myself sometimes, too. :) Thanks for stopping in early and sharing your thoughts, Debra. Looking forward to seeing what you share. :)
