Calling all bloggers! Join us here at the Will Blog for Comments linkup, a family-friendly place where bloggers come together to share their posts.
Welcome to our Current LinkUp,
Will Blog for Comments #73, open November 17 - December 4 (extended due to Thanksgiving week).
- The "Will Blog for Comments" bi-weekly linkup will opens every other Monday at 8:00am Mountain Time and remain open for 10 days (longer over some holidays).
- Each linkup will close 10 days after opening, on Thursday at 8:00pm MT, or when the linkup reaches 50 posts.
- The most popular posts from the previous linkup will be featured in the spotlight during the next linkup.
- Please don't forget that the rule to participate in this linkup is that you must visit and comment on at least 2 other posts. This is not a drop-a-link-and-run party. It's an exchange.
- NOTE: I visit and comment on each link shared, so if you don't see a comment from your host, it means there was a problem with your link and/or comment restrictions in place.
WHAT'S NEW AROUND HERE
As promised, I'm sharing what I put together for our Harry Potter watch party on Halloween. My kids are all 20-somethings now, and we don't get many trick-or-treaters, so now we watch a movie and have a little family party on Halloween.
This tradition started when we lived in upstate New York and didn't get trick-or-treaters AND had a basement for the first time ever, which became a giant game room and TV room. Now, those kiddos have work and their own apartments, so it's morphed only a little to become exclusively a Harry Potter watch party and dinner.
At her post last week, Lisa from Drugstore Divas wrote, "If you invite me somewhere, I'm going to show up with a cute, themed treat." And I felt that to the bottom of my soul. 😂. I LOVE themed, adorable foods. So, our Harry Potter Halloween party is full of them.
We traditionally have British Banger's and Mash (a recipe I Googled somewhere) and Deathly Hallows (which I made up, wanting to included vegetables in the meal.)
They're just triangle Triscuits with a little cream cheese, topped with a cucumber slice, a bit of a string cheese stick, salt, and dill. (We love them!)
We always have Butterbeer as well (again, from a Googled recipe). This year, I added some Butterbeer Biscuits (cookies) which I bought at the Harry Potter store in King's Cross station in London in October. They were meh, but I'm definitely saving the tin!
The Felix Felicis is sugar-free caramel Torani syrup, and the Powdered Root of Butterbeer (which I know doesn't make any sense but I found extra funny because of it) is butterscotch pudding.
For dessert, we have traditional British scones with clotted cream (Googled recipe), which are delicious! This time I added a little legit British jam I brought home from the Cotswolds.
And it couldn't be a Harry Potter party without chocolate, in case of Dementor attack.
I usually just do the wrapped Hershey Nuggets that I decorated with these stickers I made (below), but this year we also had peppermint toads I picked up from the Harry Potter store in London, along with these Hershey bars my daughter brought. You open a bar, and it reveals your Hogwarts house!
That's typically all we have, but I added one more thing this year. At a restaurant on the Isle of Wight, I had tomato chutney and cheese as part of my lunch. I loved it! So, I Googled a recipe and made it for our party. It's a keeper.
And that's more than I even posted here about my entire England trip, so I'm sure you're ready now for the linkup! Thanks for being here and sharing your lovely, inspiring posts.
