How to Get Back Into Scrapbooking, Digital Scrapbooking, or Photo Books (or how to start)

Sometimes things change.  And sometimes it affects your memory-keeping.

Memory-keeping is essentially preserving photos and memories.  You make a record of life's events that you and your loved ones can look back on.  And when you do, these kinds of things happen:

Memory-keeping is literally a feel-good activity.  It's truly self-care.  So getting back into it (or into it in the first place) really matters.

FALLING OUT OF THE MEMORY-KEEPING HABIT

There are so many reasons you might fall out of the memory-keeping habit.

Maybe your schedule changed.  Maybe you had a life-changing event.

Maybe the system you used to use and love isn't so loveable for one reason or another.  Maybe you're looking for something better.

Maybe you feel overwhelmed.  Maybe you just need to get excited about it again.

I've been a memory-keeper for as long as I can remember, and I absolutely love it, but this happened to me!  A big change that was out of my control required that I go looking for another digital scrapbooking option.  I didn't fall out of the habit as much as the fun was just sucked out of it and my go-to method went away.  I needed something amazing and reliable and fun.

GETTING BACK INTO IT

I think the most important thing you need in order to get back into memory-keeping (or get into it) is options.  Everyone wants a high-quality book that's *guaranteed, but not everyone enjoys or wants the same process to get there.

*Yes, a 100% satisfaction guarantee for the printed product goes without saying, but I'm also talking about the longevity of the digital version.  Some companies delete your projects after a certain amount of time, some companies charge you for a PDF version, etc.  We all definitely want some guarantees for our books.  Beyond that, we often have different needs, interests, available time, etc., for actually getting a book done.

If you haven't done scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking, or photo books for a while, this 30-minute class will get you back into it!  You'll come away with both solutions and tools, and you'll have options.

Here's the Get Back Into It checklist, too!  It includes all the live links and details for how to DO everything you learned in the class.

GETTING ON TOP OF IT

Getting back into it can get you on top of it!  Once you get back into a memory-keeping habit, you'll be having fun with it, and that makes it easy to do.  You ditch the overwhelm that way.

Staying on top of it can get you here, too:

  1. Illness has made me fall out of the habit. I usually do my digital scrapbooks in the winter, but I have been sick for 7 weeks with the flu. It makes me so sad. I look forward to the winter to catch up on indoor hobbies, and now I am so behind.

    1. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that, Amy! The flu has been so bad this year. I completely understand--I had BOTH influenza A and influenza B at the same time (which I didn't even know was possible!) and as soon as those symptoms went away (thank you, Tamiflu!) I got bronchitis. It's been weeks for me as well, so I can really appreciate how you're feeling! It has really taken its toll on me, and it sounds like you've had the same experience. People keep saying things like, "Oh, take it easy and watch some movies," but for the first 3 weeks I couldn't even *think* or concentrate, and sitting up was hard. I'm imagining it's similar for you.

I think you are a paper scrapbooker, right? If you need a little help catching up, you could always try a digital book if you want. Usually, we pick digital or paper for our own reasons, and I know most people don't go back and forth, but it IS a great way to catch up quickly if that helps you. :) https://www.forever.com/ambassador/jennifer-wise/create-and-print/photo-books Good luck and I hope you get better soon. It can get pretty depressing, I know!

  2. You have inspired me once again, Jennifer! I'm in the midst of decluttering big time and I'm finding so many photos I want to preserve. That's the next big job to undertake. Pinning for sure! Thank you!

    1. I'm so glad, Laura! :) Thanks for the lovely comment and the Pin, too. I love the surprise of finding a photo you haven't seen for a long time or didn't know existed. A little treasure from heaven. Yes, it can be a big job to preserve them, but WOW the result is worth it, and the process is so good for your heart and soul that it can not even feel like work. :)

    1. I did paper scrapbooking for many years and started digital scrapbooking around 2010. I love it because I can still be just as creative but it takes up less space, is faster, and is duplicatable. That said, I always advise people to do what they love because that's where they'll have the most success. I have started crafting with digital scrapbooking pages, too! It's a lot of fun. Happy to be your reminder to finish up one of your kids' scrapbooks. :) Thanks for sharing your experiences with us, Jen.

    1. You're welcome, Judy. Yes, a lot of people are going for digital-only records these days. I'm always a little nervous having all my eggs in one basket, so I like doing a paper book like this and having the digital backup as well. I'm glad you found the blog so informative. :) Happy spring to you, too! I love this time of year.
